Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if my insurance will cover my sessions?

Complete the contact form to let us know you’re interested in sessions and schedule a time to chat. You can email a copy of your driver’s license and insurance card (front and back) to kara@crescentwellnesscollective.com and we will check your benefits. Many BCBS plans cover unlimited nutrition sessions at no cost to you!

If I don’t have BCBS, can I still use my insurance?

We are currently only in-network with BCBS. However, we can provide you with the documentation needed to submit your sessions for possible reimbursement from your insurance provider. We also accept FSA/HSA cards.

If I am not using insurance, what is the cost of 1:1 sessions?

Sessions with Kara are $180 per session. Sessions with Danielle are $150 per session.

What is your nutrition philosophy? What type of nutrition advice will you give me?

This is a big question. Ultimately, the advice we give can be summarized as eat real food. We help clients fill their plates with nutrient-dense, whole foods. Individualizations are made to support your specific health conditions such as GI issues, hormonal imbalances, stage of life, etc.

We also believe food is inherently emotional. We never expect our clients to view food solely as fuel because we don’t view food solely as fuel. Food is ingrained in the ways we mourn, celebrate, connect, and more. We help clients find the balance without relying on food as the primary way of regulating emotions.

Lastly, we whole-heartedly believe it’s impossible for us to know anything about your physical health just by looking at your body size. Weight is such a poor indicator of health. Instead, we help you assess your health based on how you feel along with evidence-based ways of measuring health.

What do we discuss in sessions?

Sessions are a balance of our dietitians providing education and helping brainstorm practical ways of implementing evidence-based nutrition practices in your life, along with exploring what barriers have come up throughout your life around health. We set long term goals, but we focus on breaking these down into weekly bite-size goals that create momentum and symptom relief.

How long will I work with a dietitian?

This varies tremendously from person to person. We have had the pleasure of working with clients for several years, and others for just a handful of sessions. Many factors will determine how long we work together. We sometimes see clients in one stage of life, then they return for additional support as they enter another stage of life (such a pregnancy, etc.). We will check in regularly to see how you feel and what our professional recommendation is.

Are functional lab tests such as the GI MAP covered by insurance?

Unfortunately, no. However, they are FSA/HSA eligible.

Do you work with eating disorders?

Kara does work with eating disorders, but as of summer 2024 is not currently accepting ED clients. We are currently accepting clients with a history of an ED or chronic dieting, but not active EDs. EDs require specialized and thorough care. Therefore, we limit the number of cases we accept in an effort to ensure we can provide the highest quality of care to these clients.
